White House Unveils New Report Targeting Root Causes of Chronic Disease in America

The White House has published a new and unexpected report on chronic diseases, which is regarded as the biggest outcome of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission, well-known by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The report underlines the role of the modern lifestyle factors and environmental exposures in the current chronic disease crisis of the nation.

An View of the main problems: Food, Environment, and Lifestyle

The commission’s discoveries indicate that unhealthy food, environmental pollutants, a sedentary way of life, and the excessive use of gadgets by kids are the most prominent factors of chronic diseases in the United States. It also controversially proposes that there is a need for more research in the case of the childhood vaccine, and the statement is that, on the one hand, they are at the source of the prevention of infectious diseases, but on the other hand, there are still concerns about their influence on chronic health, to get maximally confirmed by the scientific community.

President Donald Trump, during a MAHA event at the White House, revealed his unambiguous commitment to the commission’s methods of solving the country’s acute public health problems and decrease the domination of corporations over society. Trumpal declared that the administration’s dedication lies in attacking, rather than avoiding, the chronic disease issue and in that context, he expressed, “We’re not going to be intimidated by lobbyists or special interests”.

No Agreed-Upon Policy

Although the report of 69 pages entirely explains the topics of chronic diseases, it fails to present any specific policy suggestions or budget allocations. Kennedy himself admitted the shortage of ideas and announced that the commission would soon come up with the action plan to change policy that would be valid during the entire term of the current administration.

Kennedy also highlighted that the fight against chronic diseases carried significant economic benefits if it was done at an early stage. “We believe our approach will be the source of cost reductions in healthcare significantly,” he guaranteed.

After the Research

Positive comments were made by certain individuals, like Kennedy’s supporter Calley Means, who is widely recognized for his activism against food additives that are detrimental to human health. They liked the report’s significance in that it is the federal government that takes the initiative to list specific chemicals and risks for food products.

On the other hand, the report has received some backlash. As a partner of the companies like Bayer that manufacture the pesticides used in the farmlands, an organization like The National Corn Growers Association was not behind the report and even showed their anger over the report being based on the “fear-based” theory that lacks any scientific evidence.

The word of reaction to Industry outburst is that several of the MAHA Commission leading staff, including Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, excluded all other stresses and focused on the fact that the American food supply is still of high safety, and, if any, further rules would be implemented in compliance with American farmers’ needs. “Not only is our food safe it’s the safest in the world,” Rollins quipped.

Zeldin took a dig at the impulsive idea of changing the existing regulations for pesticide use, the result of which could be very negative for agriculture and food security in general.

Thinking for the Future: A Move Underway

Although the report is not conclusive with regard to future policy strategy, it clearly indicates a change in the federal government’s approach to public health. Obviously, the MAHA Commission will be carrying forward these trends and also looking forward to potential tectonic changes in the coming months.

It is still not clear if these authorities will not back down in the face of big companies’ opposition and if they will definitely put their words into action. On the other hand, at the current time the publication of the MAHA report has started the public discussions nationwide on the reasons of chronic diseases and what maybe done to make sure that all the inhabitants of the United States can live in a healthier environment.

By now, the MAHA has initiated a discussion on the root causes of chronic illness and the means to cultivate a healthier lifestyle among the citizens of America in a new national perspective.
