Small Plane Crash Near Beverly Airport Leaves One Dead, One Seriously Injured
BEVERLY, Mass. – A small plane crashed just outside Beverly Regional Airport on Thursday morning, killing one person and leaving another critically injured, local officials reported.
The accident took place around 8:45 a.m. along Sam Fonzo Drive, the roadway that runs parallel to the airport. Beverly police affirmed that one person died in the crash, and another was taken to Beverly Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Further details about their condition are not yet known at the time of writing.
The plane involved was a Mooney M20F, a small, one-engine aircraft. At present, both the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are carrying out the investigation of the cause of the crash. Up to now, the officials have said they do not know what exactly caused it to take place.
“The initial information we have is the aircraft crashed under unknown circumstances,” the NTSB said in a news release. Later in the day, an official from the agency was slated to be at the crash site to start the examinations.
Video clips showing the wreckage reveal a very grievous picture – parts of the aircraft were located in two different places. One of the big parts stuck a pole near the sidewalk, and the other part ended up in a local wood. The remnants of the crash were scattered all over the road, indicating the place and intensity of the crash.
The NTSB mentioned that an in-depth studying of the airplane should be carried out, and therefore it will be taken to a protected storage place once the entire incident is captured in images.
