Michigan City Police “Intercept” Suspect in Football Card Heist

A touchdown in a stadium is what you would describe as Michigan City police making a game-winning play – no matter that the playing ground was a Meijer supermarket parking lot, and instead of touchdowns, the stolen goods were football cards.

On officers received a call from Meijer’s loss prevention team that their goods had been stolen, and subsequently, they responded to the site of the theft. A witness saw the suspect running off, but he was then gone without a trace. It was a race against time, but the dumpster was the last point of it.

When the police officers opened the lid, Daniel Moshier, aged 36, from Goshen was found inside, literally in the trash. Just before he jumped into the dumpster, Moshier is said to have thrown a backpack close to him. Guess what, there were three boxes of stolen football cards in the backpack, the total value of which, around $150.

The stolen goods had no street value, but the police arrest was an important one. Moshier was soon taken in and the law enforcement officers of La Porte County Jail quickly arranged the matter of the absence of the bond hold stems from some warrants from both St. Joseph and Elkhart counties.

It didn’t escape cops’ wit that they had “sacked the quarterback.” To Moshier, however, the play was a very sad event.
