Louisiana Woman Accused of Orchestrating Deadly Attack on Ex-Boyfriend Over Paternity Dispute
A woman who allegedly shot her ex-boyfriend to death became the outcome of a paternity dispute in Louisiana earlier this year. The female was said to have threatened him and later presented herself at his residence with two firearms, assisted by the two other men, the police report says. She and three more are now charged with second-degree murder in a case that the victim’s mother said was because of fury and threats on social media.
An indictment that has recently been lodged suggests that 32-year-old Subrina Honore is the mind behind the death of Jonathan Brookin, aged 32 and father of five kids. The police’s point of view was that the conflict developed from a deep-rooted spat between Honore and Brookin, concerning the child’s paternity of Honore’s baby, who she claimed was Brookin’s.
What made the situation worst, according to court documents, was the numerous threats supposedly issued by Honore in the days before the shooting. One comment on the day of Brookin’s death was cited revealing the fact that Honore wrote, “I am free now [expletive] always. I will come to your home.” The post was chilling and the reader would have thought that Honore’s words were ironic in a bitter tone.
That same day, January 27, a woman’s home was visited by Brookin where he spent time with her and her two young children, both 5 and 6 years old. At about 6 p.m., Honore got to the house and none were happier to see her, as she was visibly angry, and in a high pitched voice, she was asking for a birth certificate of a child she said that was with Brookin. It is said that both Brookin and the married woman requested Honore to leave the scene many times and she kept saying no as a response says Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Homicide Detective Ryan Vaught.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) Homicide Division is looking for information about a shooting incident that occurred in the 1600 Block of South Roman St. in Waggaman on January 27, 2021.
A tense argument turned sour when one person unexpectedly pulled a gun and another responded with an even more heated ambush.
The woman stated that while she was outside the house, she noticed two men, one of whom was Arthur Thomas, her ex-partner’s friend, dismount from a car parked not far from the place. Evidently, both were carrying guns and the woman was so much afraid of her life and also the lives of her children that she did not only run into the house but also sought a refuge.
Soon the sound of gunshots was heard outside. Brookin, who was rumored to be in possession of a rifle, may have tried to defend his life by returning the gunshots but the attacker was able to kill him by shooting in the head. He was on the spot to his death.
Authorities found out that there were actually three shooters and not just one, a statement that was made by the signs of gunshots. Honore, apparently, ran away from the scene with Thomas and a second individual, Jatary Joseph, 32. Another individual, Jjaun Jasmin, 34, has also been booked into jail as an aid in the committed crime although the police have not yet explained what his part was specifically.
It was revealed during a hearing by Detective Vaught that Honore confessed that she had taken Thomas with her to get the birth certificate and she further indicated that she even got in touch with the second shooter. Although Honore has been justified because Brookin allegedly fired first, the police affirmed that her behavior being the catalyst was the major factor that escalated the deadly encounter and the violent threats leading up to the confrontation also played a significant part.
All the defendants, including the gang of four, have been charged with serious legal crimes such as the second-degree killing and the obstruction of justice leastwise.
Brookin’s sister confirms that there were clues. “She had been threatening him all week long,” she said to the local media, saying that Honore’s former boyfriend had repeatedly aired his views on the incident. On the other hand, Honore tried to get away from him.
The situation is still fresh, and one fact is certain – a love-turned-to-hate relationship could result in little time in a deadly battle that would end up not only killing the kids’ father but also throwing four people into prison.
