Georgia Man Waited Over an Hour to Shoot College Student – What the Cops Aren’t Saying
After a man allegedly stalked a college student for over an hour before killing him in the head, Georgia police have reported that the murder of a young student from the state of Georgia is being investigated, although a motive is still unclear. According to various media reports, the affidavit stated that 21-year-old Morehouse College student Nigel Belser is accused of killing 22-year-old George Tech student Akash Banerjee in a robbery that happened on the 18th of May at an apartment complex in Atlanta, Georgia.
A surveillance video seems to confirm the statement of the building’s doorman that the man who went in at 4 p.m. was the college student. This video shows not only the aforementioned but one major clue that Banerjee was the person whom Belser wanted to attack as the gunman had tried to enter the room. However, as opposed to all the previous assumptions, he didn’t commit a theft, but he stayed inside the building behaving unusually.
At that time Banerjee was taking a short trip to the nearby gas station. On his return, the police say, he might have felt something was wrong. According to the affidavit, he went to the stairwell entrance probably to check something he was suspicious about and was shocked when he saw Belser hiding there. In the midst of that horror, Banerjee tried to defend himself but to no avail. It is alleged that Belser shot him in the head.
The victim, despite being critically injured in the shooting, mustered strength of mind, and courage to knock on the door of a neighbor to seek help and eventually, to lose consciousness. A terrified 911 caller reporting to dispatch said, “There is someone in front of my door lying on the floor… come quick because he’s apparently been shot in the head.”
Banerjee was taken to the hospital but two days later on the 20th of May, he died.
The day after, Atlanta police put out a video recorded the whole picture of a “person of interest.” Quite soon, police recognized Belser as the man they were looking for. On Sunday, Belser gave himself up to the authorities and is currently a prisoner in Fulton County Jail without bail. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession during the commission of a felony.
But what is still unknown in this case is the reason. At the time of writing, the police had not given any motive or clarified whether and how Belser and Banerjee were acquainted.
Keith Adams, the lawyer for Belser, who also was the legal representative of the rapper Young Thug during the YSL trial, affirmed to the media that his client was, in fact, the victim in the case. However, he refused to expose more information.
“He has no record whatsoever, strong ties to the community, a very strong family,” Adams said.
While the police inquiry goes on, the cloudy questions around the cruel murder are breaking many hearts and making not only the families and college community unconnected, but friends too, as well to the tragedy.
