Chinese PhD Student in UK Jailed for Life After Shocking Sexual Assault Case

The situation was nothing less than horrific as a previously well-perceived Chinese PhD student in the UK was unveiled as a real threat and a large-scale sexual abuser number one in the United Kingdom. Zhenhao Zou, who was a resident and a student in the Elephant and Castle area of south-east London, was given a life sentence, along with a minimum of 24 years that he has to spend in jail after he was found guilty of numerous cruel crimes.

Starting from 2019 and lasting the next four years, Zou performed a series of sexual assaults which included drugging and raping women in London and even more in his native country, China. To date, the individual personalities of only three of the rape victims have been established legally, but the police have reason to believe that the actual number of victims is much higher. Since the time of the court’s decision, 24 women have presented themselves as victims, which is why the forces of law enforcement urge the remaining potential.

The day Zou was being sentenced at Inner London Crown Court, Judge Rosina Cottage KC not only denounced him harshly but also delved into the personality of Zou, labeling him as a “highly manipulative and intelligent young man” who possessed the ability of shaping his negative persona.

The court found Zou guilty of 11 charges for the rape (in one case being the same victim), additionally for voyeurism, possession of extreme pornographic material, false imprisonment, and possession of drugs with intent to sexually related offenses.
Judge Cottage stated in court that the content of the incidents was very disturbing, and some individuals were seen to cry in the public. She stressed that Zou was, no matter only his crime nature but his complete lack of recognition of consent and controlling people, still a real danger to society.

Metropolitan Police’s Detective Inspector Richard Mackenzie referred to Zou as “one of the most prolific predators we’ve ever encountered.” According to the authorities, it is possible that the number of his victims is much higher than what has already been identified, and thus they are unable to stop the investigation.

This case was a real travesty for the entire community and acted as a strong source of encouragement for people to be cautious about not judging a book by its cover – in that even a very dignified person may have an appalling and well-hidden side that he/she could be a perpetrator of.
