California Teens Accused of Fatally Beating 66-Year-Old Man Outside Church
In an appalling instance from a city in Oxnard, California, two teenagers, one of 14 years and the other of 15, are accused of killing a 66-year-old man in a ghastly manner near a church – by not only one occasion but on different occasions they went back to the place of the murder to continue the assault, as per the prosecution.
The victim, Davy Glen Pichel, reportedly was resting next to his wheelchair, near the side door of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on the evening of June 4. Prosecutors claim he was calm and unprepared for any violence when the two teenagers attacked him viciously.
The coming of the church’s surveillance system managed to capture the terrible disaster step by step. According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, the boys pounced on Pichel, stamping on him and beating him very hard, and then they left for a while – to come back for more, as they seemed to have taken turns to bash him. It was on their last re-entry that the teenagers are reported to have made the final assault by disrobing Pichel of some of his garments and leaving the place.
Early in the morning of the next day, a volunteer of the church found the lifeless body of Pichel near the back (side) door. Paramedics were called to the scene, but they declared him dead on the spot due to fatal injuries to his head and face.
Being in a local juvenile detention center, the minors have already been detained and are to appear in juvenile court. Their arraignment which was to be held this week has been rescheduled to June 24.
Just like the community is grappling with the brutal nature of the incident, individuals within the community ask how the perpetrators of such a savage crime could be minors still young and how they could have returned to commit more damage. Most of all, people want to know why the perpetrators chose that location to act out a brutal crime; they further want to know why, after committing that crime, the performers later returned to the very same spot, that question the community also wants to have answered.
