Baseball Recap: Barry County Christian Gets Revenge with Commanding Win Over Martin
After being outplayed by Martin in their previous game, Barry County Christian showed they were not a team to mess with and dominated the Clippers 14-6 on Friday. This game not only did the Eagles do away with any doubt, but they also exhibited a balanced performance that unveiled their offensive capabilities.
Teegen Whitmire not only played an important role for Barry County Christian but also did so in his most outstanding performance since April. Whitmire kept his eye on the ball, as always, and was very productive at the plate going 3-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a base stolen. The intensity of his momentous play brought the Eagles a huge lead and set the tone right from the beginning of the match.
Another key figure in the success of the team was Dawson Weemhoff, who made significant contributions both on the basepaths and at the plate. Weemhoff’s stats on the day were 2-for-3, with three stolen bases, three runs scored, a run batted in, which only means that he was a constant menace for the rival team throughout the encounter.
The win has then raised Barry County Christian’s season record to 19-16 and clearly attested to their comeback ability and their strength. Martin, meanwhile, has had a tough time of late losing eight of the last ten games and currently at 5-13 for the season overall.
Next week, the teams are to play away games. Barry County Christian is to visit Kellogg on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., while Martin needs to regroup ahead of their meeting with Marcellus at 4:00 p.m. Marcellus, who have been in an offensive form, scoring almost 10 runs per game, will be a tough challenge to the Clippers’ pitchers.
