Line of Duty Sacrifice: Ohio Deputy Fatally Shot Responding to Emergency Call

Terrible events happened when a deputy was responding to a local woman in Morrow County, Ohio, over the Memorial Day weekend, and he was shot dead in line with his duty.

Nightly those of the domestic violence situation in the town of Marengo were facing regret their choice of actions as Deputy Daniel Weston Sherrer, only 31 years old, who was their first responder, got hit with a bullet which led him to death.

The manner of speaking of the sheriff is said to be characterised as someone who never missed a chance to say hello or comfort a person with his smile. The sheriff told a story about the deceased with tears in his eyes when a journalist asked him to talk, and expressed the opinion that the deceased was “a good guy” who could have a morning laugh with a joke or something simple as a friendly chat.

“He was always the happiest, he really loved and cared about people, I think,” the sheriff continued. “The guy is not describable, his absence is literally irreplaceable.”

The person involved in the shooting got injured as a result of the incident which led him in the hospital where he is now in serious condition. Sheriff Hinton, representing the department, clearly stated he wouldn’t name the suspect and said, “I am sorry, but I will never mention his name.”

Deputy Sherrer earned the position at the office in the month he came, i.e. May 2021. He was dedicated, active, and uplifting, according to his colleagues. He is the only child of his parents, who are grieving the loss, and of course, the department is there comforting them.

It was stated by Dave Yost, Ohio Attorney General, “The sorrow felt by this family-like community is also my sorrow, Deputy Sherrer’s family, sheriff’s staff, and all who are part of the police – my thoughts and prayers go out to you.”

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are looking into the incidents that have caused the shooting.

Concurrently with the grieving process in the community, Deputy Sherrer, apart from being a committed law enforcement officer, is also being remembered as a person who was truly warm-hearted and who spent all his energy on the protection and service of the people.
