Terror at Michigan Church Thwarted by Brave Staff as Gunman Opens Fire

What was to be a normal Sunday morning at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, suddenly changed for the worse when a gunman began shooting outside the building, but was stopped by the quick and heroic acts of church staff.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. in a Detroit suburb, according to Wayne Police, and they stated that the intervention of those present, such as the people who were there, would have prevented the situation from turning into a disaster. “We are grateful for the brave and smart reaction of the church staff. Their actions saved lives today,” said Wayne Police Chief Ryan Strong at a press conference.

The man who carried out the attack was identified as Brian Anthony Browning, 31, a resident of Romulus. He was reported to get to church in a Nissan truck, dressed in a tactical vest, and had both a long gun and a handgun. He just started shooting at the church without being inside, as he moved forward.

However, it didn’t take the people at the church by surprise. Out of the blue, a believer in the congregation drove over the gunman with a vehicle, who responded on the run with shots aimed at the car. Then, two or more staff members, one of them being the security guard of the church, stood face to face with the assailant and gunned him down. The victim who got shot in the leg during the attack is currently undergoing surgery, and the doctors are positive that he will be fully recovered.

The police are of the opinion that it is still unclear what Browning’s intentions were but they speculate that his state of mind might have caused him to act actively in a wrong way. He was not involved in any criminal activities and had attended only a few services of the church, where his mother is a parishioner.

Police officers and other relevant experts such as bomb squads and K-9 units from the Michigan State Police were summoned to the site to guarantee that no other dangerous situations were lurking. The authorities found no dangerous items, but they are still working on the case with the help of local, state, and federal law enforcement.

The members of the church staff who were part of it will remain unidentified according to their request, but their good deeds are obvious – a quiet yet very brave act which in fact was the only thing that stopped the potential unfortunate event of several people dying.
