Alabama Chiropractor on Trial for Allegedly Poisoning Wife with Lead

A shocking case unfolding in Alabama has stunned the community, as a Decatur-based chiropractor, Brian Thomas Mann, stands trial for allegedly poisoning his wife with lead – a chilling act prosecutors say left her hospitalized for months and unable to have more children.

The trial began this week, and it’s already revealing disturbing details. Brian Mann, 36, is charged with the attempted murder of his wife, Hannah, who was just 25 at the time. The couple married in 2018 when Hannah was 18 and Brian was 29, and they share two young children.

According to testimony, Hannah first began experiencing symptoms in August 2021 – extreme abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, and weakness that made it hard for her to even walk. She told the court she had been taking multivitamins that Brian gave her, not knowing they might be laced with something sinister. Doctors initially suspected stomach cancer due to the severity of her symptoms. She was hospitalized for three months, lost up to 40 pounds, and is now living with lasting health issues, including lead toxicity and permanent infertility.

On the stand, Hannah testified that even today she still carries a significant amount of lead in her body and suffers from chronic pain in her hands.

Prosecutors pointed to a potential motive: life insurance. Hannah had more life insurance coverage than Brian, despite not being the family’s main earner – a detail the prosecution says raises red flags.

The defense, however, insists there’s no direct proof linking Mann to the poisoning. They argue that law enforcement zeroed in on him too quickly and didn’t explore other possible suspects. Still, some witnesses provided context that could support the case against him.

One contractor testified he had lined the walls of Mann’s office X-ray room with lead – and noted that some lead materials were left over. While investigators searched the Mann home and found no direct trace of lead there, prosecutors suggest the leftover lead from the office could be connected to the poisoning.

The case is still ongoing, but the allegations alone have left many in disbelief. A once-promising marriage now finds itself at the center of a dark and disturbing courtroom drama.
